Teach in China during Summer 2006

We are seeking 40 teaching participants
for three weeks in June, July or August
in Xi'an, Chengdu, Beijing, and Zheijiang province

  • Our program is internationally recognized for excellence - this is our 6th year in China
  • Ours is an exciting and intensive summer English teaching program at language camps hosted by carefully selected Chinese schools
  • We provide the training to build on your education and prepare you as a Real English Teacher through a proven and successful curriculum

  • Our program has been developed by Dr. Karen Russikoff, Professor, TESL Graduate Coordinator, and Dr. Liliane Fucaloro, Professor and Chair, English and Foreign Languages Department, both at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona
  • You will share classroom duties with another Real English Teacher and have the support of 9 other teachers, including
    team leader/mentor teachers on the trips.
  • Interact daily with Chinese primary, middle or high school students who are motivated to improve their English skills

Our proven methodology involves team teaching and is focused on lowering the student's affective filter. Our goal in teaching the Chinese students is to increase their oral speaking skills. We do not teach grammar, spelling, or other English subjects that could be taught from books. We teach only spoken English and our goal is to increase their automatic response in English. This is the perfect program to learn to teach or to hone your teaching skills. Earn hours toward your credential and boost your resume.

Teacher Qualifications:

  • Be a native speaker of English
  • Majoring in/have degrees in TESOL/TESL, Linguistics, English, Education, Liberal Studies, or Teaching Credential candidate (Related areas will be considered)
  • Possess a valid US passport with 2 blank pages and valid for 6 months beyond summer program
  • Be in good physical and mental health
  • Be eager to expand your résumé
  • Experience working with public school students is a plus
  • Possess a positive attitude, a high tolerance for ambiguity, and the willingness to work hard for a wonderful experience

Teacher Responsibilities

  • Attend a mandatory teacher-training program in spring, which includes a developed curriculum and prepared teaching materials. Participants will practice with methodology and be given feedback. Cultural guidance/understanding of Chinese student learning will also be provided. No team will go unprepared
  • Team-teach five daily classes Monday through Friday during the 3-week program
  • Participate in arranged group and sightseeing activities
  • Have his/her own medical insurance coverage for the program (required)

Camp Sites in China

  • Beijing, China's capital city (one school)
  • Chengdu, panda country  (two schools)
  • Xi’an; home of the Terra Cotta Warrior Museum (one school)
  • Zhejiang province, near Shanghai, the financial capital of China (two schools, one in Huzhou and the other in a city nearby)

* Program Tour Extension

Two-to-three day excursions to Beijing and Shanghai will be offered prior to and/or following camp. Approximate additional cost for both will be $500. Please contact Spring International for more information.

The program is organized and led by Spring International Education Foundation, a non-profit educational organization specializing in cultural and educational programs and exchanges between China and the U.S.

Application Process

Obtain an application from your college study-abroad advisor or here.

Make sure to include an unofficial transcript, one faculty letter of recommendation that speaks to your interest and ability to teach English, and a statement of purpose with your application. More detailed information can be found on the application.

Once you have been selected, an official letter of acceptance, contract, and a participation form will be sent to you. Submit your completed participation form and signed contract by the indicated deadline with $850 to Spring International Education Foundation.
